Sergeant Anthony Quinn said he was acting on information that Mr Puska burned his clothes.
A garda has given evidence to a jury at the Central Criminal Court of sifting through ashes in Jozef Puska’s fireplace in search of evidence his clothing had been burned.
His two sisters-in-law are on trial, accused of burning the clothes he was wearing when he murdered Ashling Murphy along the Grand Canal in Tullamore in 2022.
Sergeant Anthony Quinn gave evidence today of sifting through whatever ashes were in the fireplace at Jozef Puska’s home.
This was six days after Ashling Murphy’s murder.
He said he and his colleague were acting on information that the clothes Jozef Puska was wearing when he murdered Ashling had been burned in the house.
He told the jury they didn’t find anything though.
Jozef Puska’s two sisters-in-law, Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gazoiva, are on trial for allegedly burning the clothes; while his brothers, Marek and Lubomir Puska, are accused of withholding information from the investigation team.
All four of the accused have pleaded not guilty.
