Photo displays and music will be at the centre of a Traveller Pride event in Laois today.
The event at Bloom HQ in Mountrath forms part of Traveller Pride Week, to celebrate the community's heritage, culture and musical tradition.
It kicks off at 12pm today and will run until 4pm.
Pauline Flanagan is a board member for the Laois Traveller Action Group - she says there's one exhibit in particular that she's looking forward to:
The line-up includes:
- Photo display of the Travelling Community throughout generations,
- Photo display by Frenchman Joseph Philippe Bevillard, who has taken on interest and photographed the Travelling community for many years,
- Display of old campfire and tents used in the Travelling community,
- Singer Davey Ward, who sings songs well known and loved by Travellers.
The event is open to all members of the community.
