The ESB received planning permission to knock down the facility earlier this year.
The Shannonbridge Power Station won't be demolished just yet.
The ESB received planning permission to knock down the site in Offaly in January of this year, and instead develop a battery energy storage system and a synchronous condenser.
But, in a new planning file submitted by the company, it states it wouldn't be possible to demolish the former plant while a Temporary Emergency Generation plant is operational at the site.
Development of that facility is currently underway.
However, in the interim period, the ESB is seeking permission to construct the synchronous condenser, until the Station can be demolished and the BESS be developed.
