The IFA South Leinster Regional Chairman says the cut will lead to widespread job losses.
Cabinet has agreed an emissions reduction target of 25% for the agriculture sector.
The move has been criticised by both farmers and environmentalists.
The reduction by 2030 is on the lower end of the 22% to 30% scale.
Fine Gael sources have stressed it will be voluntary for farmers to take part, adding there will be generous financial incentives for participating.
They say it's about future-proofing farming by paying farmers to plant trees, sink carbon or build solar panels.
A number of opposition parties say the 25% target doesn't go far enough with people before profit calling it an enormous blow to climate activism.
The Irish Farmer's Association is calling the decision 'devastating' to the Irish farming sector.
IFA South Leinster Regional Chairman, and Laois farmer, Francie Gorman says the cut will lead to widespread job losses.
