EPA Warns Homeowners They Need To Stop Burning Solid Fuels

A report shows that levels of harmful particles in the air can be twice as high in the midlands compared to Wicklow.

The Environmental Protection Agency says homeowners in the long term will need to stop burning solid fuels to generate heat and switch to clean technologies.

It follows a report showing that levels of harmful particles known as PM2.5 in the air can be twice as high in Longford than in Bray.

The government is in the process of putting an all-island ban of smokey coal but this will not include timber and peat which is till polluting air quality.

An EPA Air Quality Inspector says the reason it is higher in the Longford area is because there isn't a ban on smokey coal.
