First Common Crane Born In Ireland In 300 Years Hatches On Midlands Bog

The rewetted peatland seems to be the ideal breeding location for the bird.

The first Common Crane born in Ireland in Ireland in 300 years has hatched in the midlands.

Two baby chicks successfully hatched on rewetted peatlands in May.

A pair of adult birds set up nest earlier this year, after two unsuccessful breeding attempts on the bog.

Bord na Móna has confirmed the details, but not revealed the exact location to reduce the risk of disturbance to the nest.

It's the first recorded birth of Crane chicks in Ireland since the 1700s.
