Half a million people are expected to descend on Westmeath between the 6th and 14th of August.
This year's Fleadh is expected to put a strain on Regional Hospital Mullingar.
500,000 people are expected to descend on Mullingar for the event from this Sunday, August 6th, to August 14th, and hospital management have been working with Emergency Management Office, HSE East Region, the Order of Malta and NAS (National Ambulance Service) regarding the planned onsite medical cover in place.
It's asking attendees to be careful during the Fleadh, especially when it comes to alcohol consumption.
The advice from the hospital is as follows:
- Keep cool and stay hydrated - Sip water and take breaks from dancing. Give yourself time to cool down.
- Bring appropriate clothing and footwear for both wet and dry weather conditions.
- Be in the know before you go - See the HSE’s festival information on the latest trends.
- Don’t mix - Mixing alcohol and prescription medication increases your risk of becoming unwell.
- Be with people you trust and don’t be afraid to get help.
It's also warning patients in the Emergency Department could experience longer waiting times during the event, and is also reminding patients they can attend the RHM Minor Injuries Unit in Charter Medical Ballinderry.
