Planning permission has been granted for the building in Kilcormac.
Permission has been granted to convert a former Offaly convent into an alcohol rehab centre, despite strong local opposition.
Serenity Home Limited has got the green light from Offaly County Council to proceed with its plans at the Sisters of Mercy Convent on Main Street in Kilcormac, which closed over 50 years ago.
A number of objections have been made by local residents and business owners since the application was first filed in August 2020, including a petition signed by 245 people.
They claim they aren't opposed to the facility but rather its location, in the heart of the village.
