Fouling Dog Owners In The Midlands Getting Away Fine-Free

There were no dog fouling fines issued in two out three midlands counties.

Just three dog fouling fines were issued in the midlands last year.

The National Council for the Blind of Ireland is calling on dog owners to take responsibility and clean up their animal's poo, as part of its Clear Our Paths campaign.

The organisation's latest survey has found all of the fines issued in the region were in Laois, while no fines were handed out in Offaly or Westmeath.

Nationally, just 82 fines were issued last year, while 18 local authorities reported handed out none in that time frame.

Communications Executive with the NCBI, Graham McGrath says dog poo can be very frustrating for visually impaired people:

Cars parked on footpaths are the number one obstacle faced by visually impaired people.

That's according to the NCBI, as its new survey shows over 19,000 fines were issued in relation to inappropriate parking in 2022.

Over 600 of those were in the midlands, with 397 in Westmeath, 124 in Laois and 94 in Offaly.
