Two children lost their lives in the incident on Friday.
Gardai believe a car fire in Westmeath that killed two children was started deliberately, according to the Irish Daily Star.
Two-year-old Michael and five-year-old Thelma lost their lives, while their mother, Lynn Egar, was seriously injured.
The incident happened in Multyfarnham on Friday afternoon.
The Irish Times crime correspondent, Conor Lally, says gardai are conducting a criminal inquiry and are trying to find out who was responsible:
Hundreds of people attended a vigil last night, remembering the two children.
