Gardai Note Increase In Non-Essential Journeys

A number of cars were seized in the Midlands last weekend.

Gardai in the midlands have seized a number of vehicles over the weekend. 

They are reminding people to only makes essential journeys. 

In Laois, Gardai seized a car from an uninsured driver, who was travelling with a small baby.

The car was stopped at a Covid-19 checkpoint in Portlaoise, the motorist also had no licence. 

They are due to appear before the courts.

Over the weekend, Gardai claimed there was an increase in the number of people making non essential trips.

In Edenderry, a driver out for a spin had their car seized for having no NCT. 

The test had expired seven months ago and the four tyres also had insufficient thread.

In Westmeath. a motorist is due in court after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving 

The driver who was stopped by the  Mullingar Roads Policing Unit is serving a 10 year driving ban.

The vehicle was also seized.

Gardai are asking people to stay home and stay safe.
