A man in his 50s died following the collision with a car on the R446 at Marshbrook, just outside Moate, shortly before 2am on Sunday morning.
An examination by Forensic Collision Investigators has since been conducted in the area.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly those with camera or dashcam footage, to come forward.
In particular, investigating Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of this collision shortly after it occurred to make contact with them, even if they did not witness the collision.
