131 new chargers are set to be installed around the country.
The midlands is set to see an influx of high-powered charging points for electric vehicles over the coming year.
Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has announced plans to install 131 new chargers around the country, with three areas in the region set to benefit.
They are Portlaoise and Barack Obama Plazas on the M7, and Applegreen on the M4 in Mullingar.
Around the country, 17 locations on the motorway network will see new chargers, after a deal was struck with a number of private companies under a Department of Transport scheme.
They will be more expensive than home chargers, but would provide motorists with a substantial recharge in minutes.
