Ireland Imports Blood From The UK For First Time Since 1990s

People to asked to give blood in Offaly this evening, to help with supply shortages.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has imported a consignment of blood from the UK for the first time since the 1990s.

It's due a shortage in supply here.

115 units of Rh Negative blood groups - O negative, A negative and B negative - are leaving Manchester today. 

The IBTS says it's activating its contingency arrangement with the NHS in England to supplement blood stocks and is appealing for donors to attend their clinic in Mucklagh Community Centre in Co. Offaly this evening.

The appointment-only clinic will be open from 3.45 until 8 o'clock this evening
