Mr Jordan worked in Westmeath for a time.
Eddie Jordan is being remembered as a "great entrepeneur", who was always "building castles in the air".
The former Formula One team boss passed away yesterday at the age of 76 after recently being diagnosed with an aggresive form of cancer.
Mr Jordan, who's team won four grand prix over the course 14 years, was a well known figure in Mullingar after working for Bank of Ireland in the town in the late 60s.
While he was working in Westmeath, he looked to set up an international karting event on the grounds of Collumb barracks.
Jim Burke from Mullingar Autos was a good friend of Mr Jordan's when he based in the midlands.
He says there was no better man to pull off an unlikely event:
Taoiseach Micheal Martin says there were "few like" Irish Formula One legend Eddie Jordan.
A statement from his family says "it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur."
He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of this morning.
