New cameras are set to be deployed to help remotely monitor affected bridges.
Iarnród Éireann says their new "bridge strike cameras" will help address collision blackspots.
Bridges in Portlaoise were once "the worst struck in the network", while last year there was 80 incidents of vehicles colliding with railway bridges across the country.
The new cameras will help assess bridges remotely in the event of a crash - allowing train services to resume as quickly as possible, reducing delays.
So far four systems are in place with plans to fit 15 more.
