'It's Horrible, I've Had Many Sleepless Nights' - Midlands Man Worried For Sudanese Family's Safety

Evacuation efforts are still on-going in the war-torn country.

A midlands man says he's had 'many sleepless nights' while waiting for his family to be evacuated from Sudan.

Portlaoise's Magid Mustafa's mother and sister are currently at a hotel in Egypt, after being evacuated from Khartoum.

He's lost contact with the rest of his family, who are still trying to escape the war-torn country.

The two sides fighting have agreed to extend a ceasefire for three-days, with evacuation efforts still ongoing.

Mr. Mustafa says it's been a very stressful time:

163 Irish citizens and their dependents have been evacuated from Sudan.

It's hoped the extension of a ceasefire agreed by both sides in the conflict in the country will hold.

But residents in Khartoum say they've recently heard explosions and gunfire. 

Tánaiste Michael Martin says it is still a challenging situation:

The Fianna Fail leader also says evacuations will only "continue for as long as the security situation allows."

Nicholas Kay - who served as the UK's ambassador to Sudan - says the African nation is facing a difficult future:
