1,200 such premises across the country have been selected under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.
It's expected that almost 130 derelict properties in the midlands will be approved for development.
An update on the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, shows over 1,200 vacant properties have been selected across the country under the scheme, with 59 of those in the midlands.
The highest number in the region is in Westmeath, with 24, just under is Offaly at 23 and there are 12 in Laois.
The estimated residential yield from these properties nationwide is over 5,400.
The midlands has been allocated €6.5m under call 3 of the URDF, of a total €142.5m.
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien says: "This Government have placed a huge emphasis on the regeneration and rejuvenation of towns all across the country and as I travel around Ireland it’s heartening to see the impact of the various initiatives which are underway"
