A former Laois restauranter is growing his new farming venture into a vital link in the local food chain.
John Egan, owner of Farmer J’s in Ratheniska, grows a range of organic crops for local businesses in Abbeyleix, Stradbally and Portlaoise.
The farm features 12 polytunnels along with 5km of outdoor growing beds.
Last week, the company was signed up by La Rousse Foods, this means Mr Egan's operation will expand substantially in the near future to supply a new chain of customers across the region.
He says while the work is hard, it's very rewarding:
