The Junior Finance Minister has announced a change in interest limits that can be charged in credit unions.
The manager of a midlands Credit Union says people "shouldn't worry" about an increase of interest rates under government proposals.
It comes as a plan by Junior Finance Minister Sean Fleming introduces a change in interest limits that can be charged in credit unions from 1% to a 2% monthly maximum.
The proposal has been pinned as a way to increase lending, as well as allowing the sector to implement a credit card scheme.
But, Tom Allen of North Midlands Credit Union says he doesn't believe any local credit unions will adopt the higher limit:
