Midlands Minister Facing Formal Complaint Over Undeclared Properties

The issue is set to be examined by the Standards in Public Office Commission.

A midlands junior minister is facing a formal complaint against him after failing to declare a number of properties he owned in recent years.

Fianna Fáil's Robert Troy did not disclose in his Dáil Register of Members' Interests that he owned three houses, two of which he's since sold to Westmeath and Longford County Councils.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy is threatening to make a formal complaint over the matter to the Standards in Public Office Commisssion.

However, while TDs are required to declare ownership of properties, they are not obliged to disclose the sale of such properties to local authorities.

Political Correspondent with the Irish Independent, Hugh O'Connell says it draws attention to potential loopholes in Ireland's ethics laws.
