Ciaran Mullooly wants the European Union to legislate to ensure that cash remains acceptable everywhere.
The Midlands Northwest rep is pointing to a European Central Bank survey, which showed 59 per cent of consumers used cash at the point of sale.
While 60 per cent of respondents expressed a clear preference for maintaining both cash and cashless payment options.
