They're calling for an end to the two-tier pay system.
School secretaries in the midlands are taking part in a nationwide work stoppage today, in a row over pay.
Their trade union, Forsa, is calling on the Department of Education to end a ''two-tier'' pay system where most earn just 12,500 euro.
It says they're taking the step as there was no breakthrough at Wednesday's talks with the Department.
In the midlands, secretaries at Mountrath Community School, Scoile Mhuire in Abbeyleix and St. Colman's National School in Stradbally in will protest outside the buildings in Laois between 8:30 and 9:30.
While in Offaly, strikes are taking place at Ballinamere National School in Tullamore, Scoil Bhríde in Clara, and St. Mary's in Pullough.
Forsa spokesperson, Niall Shanahan says the strike is happening across the country.
