The Minister for Further and Higher Education is expected to confirm details of 14 degree programmes, outside the CAO system when he address the Teachers Union of Ireland conference today.
The courses which include Science, Engineering, Business and Nursing will start in a further education college before transitioning to a University or a Technological University.
New business studies and science and computing degrees will take place in Laois Offaly ETB - they'll commence in September, and will be open for applications in July.
Mullingar Guidance Counsellor Betty McLaughlin says they're very sought after courses:
Minister Simon Harris says the "revolutionary" new courses will help stem the tide of trainee nurses leaving Ireland.
