Chronic flooding is being tackled in a Westmeath town through a new Office of Public Works project.
Athlone is set to have a 300 meter drainage pipe and gullies worth €18,000 installed in the Garrynafela area to reduce surface water flooding.
The application lodged by the local authority in Westmeath is under the OPW's Minor Flood Mitigation Works scheme, which provides funds to county councils for projects that can be completed quickly.
