A Westmeath guidance counsellor says new Leaving Cert subjects will only be introduced in schools if they have a need and the resources.
From next year, Lithuanian, Polish, Portugese and Mandarin Chinese will be introduced to the senior cycle curriculum.
But it's raising questions as to whether there's enough staff qualified to teach the subjects - and students interested in taking on the languages.
