Over 6,000 are still in receipt of the subsidy though.
6,387 people are claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in the midlands this week.
That's down almost 10,000 since the end of May, just before hotels reopened and outdoor dining resumed.
Westmeath remains the worst affected, with 2,372 PUP recipients.
The income support has been closed to new claimants since July 8th.
Changes in September will see the top three rates reduced by 50 euro per week, while those receiving the 203 euro per week payment will be moved to either Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance.
The number of people on the Pandemic Unemployment Payment dropped by roughly 3 percent this week.
Nationally, 153,000 are receiving the Covid payment this week, compared to 157,000 the last seven days.
That equates to more than €45 million paid out by the Department of Social Protection.
Dublin, Cork and Donegal had the highest number of people who closed their claims.
While Longford, Leitrim and Carlow had the least.
Almost half of those who stopped receiving the payment work in the accommodation and food services sector.
