Fianna Fáil's Tony McCormack is questioning BnM, EirGrid and IDA Ireland about a coordinated approach that would see large-scale industrial facilities built directly beside wind turbine parks on former peatlands.
The proposal would see EirGrid provide direct renewable energy connections and IDA Ireland marketing the sites to global investors.
Deputy McCormack believes the plan could deliver long-term jobs in areas hardest hit by the transition away from peat.
He says this would be the perfect next chapter for Offaly’s economic development:
