The Garda clampdown came to a close at 7am this morning.
The Justice Minister says an increase in penalty points for speeding could be a way to deal with the rise in the number of road deaths.
Gardai have just completed their latest National Slow Down Day campaign , after checking over 142,000 vehicles for speeding since 7am yesterday morning.
Two motorists were clocked travelling at 155 and 154 kilometres per hour respectively on the M6 near Tyrrellspass, while another was caught driving 22 kilometres over the speed limit on the M7 at Meelick in Portlaoise.
