A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of a man in his 60s.
Gardaí are following a 'definite line of inquiry', in the investigation into the discovery of a man's body in Westmeath.
It's believed the man, who was aged in his 60s, suffered a violent death.
His body was found at a bungalow in Rattin shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
A person of interest has been identified and he is assisting with Garda enquries.
The man’s remains were removed from the house located here in Rattin, just a few kilometres away from Miltownpass, at around midday.
The Garda Technical Buerau were at the scene today to carry out a forensic examination.
A postmortem examination is currently underway at Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar, which will determine the course of the investigation.
It is being carried out by the State Pathologist.
It’s understood a person of interest has been identified and is assisting the Gardaí with their inquiries.
The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of their investigation.
