Public Meeting Hears Of "Open-Air Drug Dealing, Urinating In Public And Drinking On The Streets"

It was the second meeting organised to discussed anti-social behaviour in a midlands town.

"Help is required" for businesses and people in Athlone.

That was the cry from the floor of a public meeting in the town last night, which addressed an increasing level of crime and anti-social behaviour.

It was the second gathering organised by the Athlone Drugs Awareness Group, which heard of "drug dealing in open-air, urinating in public and drinking on the streets."

Chairperson of the group, Frankie Keena, says the level of crime in the town doesn't give a good impression from a tourism perspective:
