Sanctions On Russia Not As Effective As Hoped, Says Midlands TD

Vladimir Putin's adult children are to be sanctioned as the US, G7 and EU impose new restrictions on Russia.

Other high-ranking officials in Moscow - including foreign minister Sergei Lavrov's wife and daughter - will also be affected.

Harrowing footage of civilian bodies on the streets of Bucha, near Kyiv, has been shown around the world. 

But Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, claims the images were doctored:

The European Union's going to give over three and a half billion euro to countries in the bloc who welcome Ukrainian refugees.

It'll be split according to the number of people they take in - or have passing through.

It's been announced ahead of an expected new round of sanctions against Russia, after images of dead civilians near Kyiv emerged.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the UK will be making a similar move:

It comes as People Before Profit TDs are being described as 'reprehensible' for refusing to clap for the Ukrainian President following his address to the Oireachtas earlier. 

Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond said it made him embarrassed to be a member of the Dáil.

People Before Profit's Paul Murphy says the didn't clap as they don't support increased restrictions and have concerns about Zelensky's ban of opposition parties with links to Russia:
