90-year-old Geoffrey Cuffe, from Athlone, passed away on Tuesday.
The Westmeath man was a survivor of the Siege of Jadotville, where 156 Irish troops acting as peacekeepers resisted repeated attacks from a force of 5,000 in the Congo in 1961.
He is survived by his daughter Jean and sons, Liam and Geoffrey.
