Supermacs owner Pat McDonagh wants the State to do more to prevent people making exaggerated claims in affidavits.
The Ballinasloe man believes more and more businesses are going to fold under the weight of insurance costs if something isn't done soon.
It comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions decided against pursuing a case against a woman filmed eating a carvery after swearing in an affidavit she could no longer eat in public after she alleged a thumb tack fell into her chips in a Supermacs restaurant.
Mr McDonagh reported the case to a dedicated fraud unit in 2021 but has now been informed by the DPP that the case won't be pursued.
He says the State's response to that case isn't good enough:
