The Athlone councillor believes the government is wasting the taxpayers money.
The State's application for a six month delay on the dismantling of a Westmeath Asylum Seeker Centre is being labelled as "shameful".
Athlone Mayor Frankie Keena believes the new government is going to spend more public money trying to change current legislation to make the Midlands Accommodation Centre lawful.
Last year the Department of Integration conceded a case brought against them by councillors in the Athlone area.
Since then there have been several delays to the one thousand person centre being closed, with the State now applying for a six month stay on the High Court's decision so that they can resolve the environmental issues cited.
The Department of Integration spokesperson has told Midlands 103 they are not in a position to comment on the story:
