Tánaiste Simon Harris is accusing a Midlands MEP of engaging in 'performative politics' when it comes to the Mercosur trade deal.
The EU trade agreement could be delayed for another two years after being sent to the European Court of Justice for review.
The Tánaiste told a private Fine Gael meeting the referral should not have happened and warned the party not to be put on the back foot by the Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly.
Internal tensions have emerged after some Fine Gael MEPs signalled support for Mercosur despite Government opposition.
