A Laois heart transplant recipient says it's still emotional to meet family members of donors.
Nick Hines moved to Clonaslee from the US over 20 years ago, and is sharing his story to mark Organ Donor Awareness Week.
The secondary school teacher suffered a stroke in February 2020 and had a defibrillator installed in his body.
His issues continued until another incident in September 2023 which led to the start of his transplant journey.
He remained in the cardiac care unit in the Mater Hospital in Dublin until he matched up with a suitable donor a year ago.
