The project is designed to safeguard the drinking water supply for nearly half of Ireland’s population.
Uisce Éireann is lodging a major planning application next week for the Water Supply Project Eastern & Midlands Region.
The submission to An Coimisiún Pleanála includes more than 500 documents and a Compulsory Purchase Order for one of the largest infrastructure schemes in the history of the State.
The project aims to secure drinking water for up to 50% of Ireland’s population.
Costing up to €5.96 billion, construction could begin in 2028 and take five years to complete.
Water will be drawn from the Parteen Basin and delivered via a 170km pipeline to Dublin, supporting housing, economic growth and climate resilience.
