Gardaí say the accused intended to assault his brother in Mullingar.
A Westmeath man is accused of turning up at a housing estate with a stanley knife, and then returning a short time later with another bladed implement with the intention of assaulting his own brother.
The Irish Independent is reporting 24 year old Shane Gavin of Grange Lawns, Mullingar, in Westmeath, was charged at a sitting of Mullingar District Court yesterday.
The charge relates to an incident which took place at Grange Lawns in Mullingar on July 20th last year.
Mr Gavin is alleged to have visited the area twice within a matter of minutes with two separate weapons.
Gardaí say on the first occasion the accused was confronted by his older brother while brandishing a stanley knife.
The court then heard Gavin returned with a curved metal bladed implement.
He was then apparently challenged and again, left the scene.
Gardaí added that the Mullingar man tried to gain access to a house in the Grange Lawns Estate to assault his brother.
Gavin made no comment during yesterday's hearing, while his solicitor applied for disclosure of all State evidence in advance of any plea being entered.
The accused has been remanded on bail before appearing at Mullingar District Court next Thursday, October 9th.
