Works To Alleviate Pressure On Laois Water Network Given Green Light

Planning permission has been granted for upgrades to a waste water treatment plant in Castletown.

Works to alleviate pressure on the water network in Laois have been given the green light.

Planning permission has been granted for upgrades to a waste water treatment plant in Castletown.

The development includes the construction of a storm water holding tank and pumping station.

A qualified archaeologist must carry out an assessment of the site before work can start.

The development involves construction of a storm water holding tank complete with cleaning system and access stairs, final effluent wash water pumping station, control kiosk and all ancillary site development works including hard and soft landscaping.

On completion of this work they must submit a written report to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Where archaeological material/features are shown to be present, preservation on site, preservation by record (excavation) or monitoring may be required.

Welcoming the news, Laois-Offaly Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State Seán Fleming said he's looking forward to the archaeological work being completed promptly so the upgrade works by Irish Water can commence as soon as possible.
