As it stands, 120 asylum seekers are to be accommodated in tents on the grounds of the Westmeath barracks.
The Government is facing calls to house refugees inside a former midlands army barracks, instead of using tents on the site.
120 male asylum seekers will be accommodated in 15 tents in the square at Columb Barracks in Mullingar by the end of this month.
But Longford Westmeath TD Robert Troy believes the interior of the site could be better utilised.
