Children Admitted To Adult Psychiatric Units 20 Times Last Year

It's often due to no bed available in a child and adolescent unit. 

Children have been admitted to adult psychiatric units 79 times over the past three years. 

It happened on 20 occasions last year, according to freedom of information files.

Katie Richardson from MonuMental Therapy in Portlaoise believes it's a practice that has to stop, as children deserve better:

Serious concern wew raised at a UN committee today, over the continued admission of children to adult psychiatric units in Ireland.

Children's Minister Roderic O'Gorman attended the UN committee on the Rights of Children in Geneva, where the country's strategy was reviewed.
