It's expected the project will be completed by 2024.
The green light has been given for works to commence on an emergency power plant in the midlands.
Argan has received full notice to proceed on the engineering, procurement and construction of the project, which will be based on the grounds of the former Shannonbridge Power Station.
The plant, which has an expected completion date of early 2024, will be responsible for a reliable electricity supply during critical situations and emergencies.
Work on the project commenced earlier this year, under limited notices to proceed.
The Shannonbridge Power Station closed for the final time in December of 2020, resulting to numerous calls to re-fire the facility in the years since.
Managing Director of Atlantic Projects Company, Billy Nolan, says:
"We understand the importance to Ireland of having a robust and reliable national power supply, especially during times of high demand.
With a 50-year global pedigree in providing power generation solutions, our experienced team is dedicated to executing this project with the utmost professionalism while adhering to safety and quality standards.
The Shannonbridge Project is expected to serve as a vital resource to ensuring the security of the electricity supply when the country needs it."
