Paddy Cooney was remembered as a "kind" man during his funeral mass today in Athlone.
A former Midlands cabinet minister is being remembered as a thoughtful family man.
Paddy Cooney passed away on Saturday after a short illness.
He held a number of ministerial roles in the 70s and 80s including education and transport as a Fine Gael representative for Longford-Westmeath.
His funeral mass took place this morning in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone.
The former Bishop of Clonfert John Kirby and the current Bishop of Clonmacnoise Paul Connell were in attendance.
