There's confusion over the legal implications of holding a meeting online.
County councils cannot discuss statutory business at monthly meetings for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis.
The government is issuing guidance to local authorities that council meetings CAN be held remotely, using online platforms, to ensure physical distancing is maintained.
However, the meetings are to be limited to non-statutory business only.
Offaly County Council held a remote meeting on Zoom last Monday, with Chief Executive Anna Marie Delaney saying a recommendation on how to deal with statutory business would be made to the elected members after full consideration of the government advice.
Laois is to hold its monthly meeting over the phone, while Westmeath County Council will not be holding a remote meeting until futher clarity is sought on the issue.
