The Health Minister is shelving the plans to close the South Westmeath Hospice.
Committee members along with local TDs met with Simon Harris today after the HSE’s proposed to close the facility in Athlone by the end of the year.
The HSE was proposing to provide two palliative care beds in St. Vincent’s Care Centre and, based on need, up to four further beds in a new facility in Clonbrusk.
Minister Harris told the group they were right to feel aggrieved by the way the issue was dealt with.
