Ireland To Push For Humanitarian Ceasefire In Gaza

EU leaders are meeting to discuss the bloc's position on the conflict.

Ireland will push for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, says the Taoiseach.

On the way into a European Council meeting in Brussels, Leo Varadkar said its purpose would be to allow aid into Gaza and allow EU citizens out of the area.

Israel's siege and bombardment of Gaza is continuing.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar outlined his position:

Israel carried out what it described as 'targeted raids' in Gaza overnight as threats of a ground invasion continue to grow.

The country has now said there are 224 hostages taken by Hamas on October 7th - which led to its bombardment and siege of the Palestinian territory.

Today, EU member state leaders meet to discuss the bloc's position on the conflict.
