People Shouldn't Fear Giving Information To Gardaí

Justice Minister says people shouldn't fear reporting information about attacks on Quinn staff to the authorities.

The Justice Minister says people living along the border shouldn't fear reporting information about attacks on Quinn staff to the authorities.

Laois TD Charlie Flanagan visited Quinn Industrial Holdings in Derrylin this morning to meet with company management, after the vicious abduction and torture of its director Kevin Lunney just over a week ago.

The assault is the latest in a series of at least 70 reported incidents of intimidation against Quinn employees in the border area.

Speaking at a cross border conference on organised crime in Cavan, Minister Flanagan says he's worried about why locals are afraid to speak out:

The Garda Commissioner is defending the force's record in dealing with attacks on Quinn workers along the Cavan-Fermanagh border.

Officers investigating the attack on Mr. Lunney are appealing for information on a white 'hi-roof' transit type van, described as being in poor repair, with a red floor, which may have a loose 'screeching' fan belt.

Commissioner Drew Harris says all possible resources are being pumped into the investigation, and a new Garda armed support unit will become operational in Cavan from Monday.

Speaking at a cross border organised crime conference in Cavan, he rejected claims Gardaí could be doing more:
