179 people have been killed on the roads so far this year, which is an increase of 15 on this day last year.
Five people, including two pedestrians, were killed between Friday and yesterday.
In the last week, 147 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Over 3,265 drivers were detected for speeding offences including a motorist in Laois travelling at 149km/h in an 80km/h zone in Crettyyard.
