Tullamore mother Amanda Coughlan is speaking out following her experience with Children's Health Ireland as her son, TJ, was diagnosed with spina bifida and scoliosis, but couldn't access early medical intervention.
The time he spent on waiting lists means his condition is now inoperable.
A damning report from HIQA yesterday found that children weren't protected from harm when unapproved spinal springs were implanted into 3 children.
Ms Coughlan is the co-lead of the paediatric advocacy group for children with Spina Bifida and Hyrocephalus and met with the board of CHI in 2018.
She says she's relieved her son never went through the operation:
